At "The Olive and the Goose" we offer our guests a secluded, private retreat in a casually elegant Lodge set in the midst of Frog’s End Olive Estate. This is a tranquil location on the shores of the Waimea Estuary, in the heart of New Zealand’s beautiful Nelson region.
The Lodge is elevated with estuary views from all rooms, panoramas that are a delight to wake up to. Whether for a gathering of family, friends, travellers or a romantic couple looking for privacy, the Olive and the Goose will not disappoint you.
The Lodge’s location is perfect as amazing walks, cycling, beaches, kayaking, trout fishing, horseback riding and golf are conveniently close by. Tour wineries, shops, galleries or the back roads. Explore our famous National Parks, "Abel Tasman”, “Kahurangi”, “Nelson Lakes” and the Marlborough Sounds, which are all within an easy drive.
The interior decor combines rustic wooden beams in an elegant, contemporary style along with highlights of Asian art.
Accommodation options include an executive suite upstairs with adjoining office and kitchenette. On the main level there are two spacious suites as well as a bunk room that all open out to terraces overlooking the estuary. The Lodge comfortably sleeps 10 guests. An external sleep-out accommodates a further four if needed.
The rooms have wireless broadband access with Satellite TV, DVD and CD players available in the lounge. A large studio upstairs provides the perfect space for dancing, yoga or meetings.
The Lodge is well equipped for your self-catering needs. You are close to great restaurants and vineyards of the Nelson, Tasman region. Dine out or enjoy your own gourmet dinner created from a wonderful selection of fresh ingredients, you can gather from local markets. Experience the culinary joy of “Frog’s End Estate” Extra Virgin Olive Oil and local smoked salmon, scallops, mussels, barbequed lamb, seasonal fruits, berries and vegetables from Nelson’s sun drenched region. Dim the lights and dine in front of a roaring fire.
Extensive terraces provide outdoor living areas with a stone fireplace, barbeque and al fresco dining area. This is a perfect setting for a glass of fine wine under the stars (you will be amazed how clear the Milky Way is). Lounge on the terrace and stroll in the park like grounds. Relax and enjoy the coastal environment, savor the tidal ebb and flow, the diverse birdlife and the beautiful evening light that artists and photographers so adore.

The Lodge is located off the Coastal Highway (SH60) at 160 Westdale Road not far from the village of Mapua and only thirty minutes from the centre of Nelson City.
